Celebrating Excellence in Historic Preservation
Following last year's record number of applications, our traditional juried project awards continue in 2026.
Since 2013, the DeMuro Award has promoted historic preservation and reuse in Oregon by spotlighting and celebrating outstanding rehabilitation projects, and sharing the lessons learned from those case studies. It honors the legacy of our friend and former Board member, Art DeMuro, whose career embodied vision, persistence, creativity, excellence, and sound economics. The recipients are publicly honored at the Restoration Celebration ceremony each Fall. The winners are also exclusively acknowledged on the Restore Oregon website and the case studies will be featured in our publications and social media.
The purpose of the DeMuro award is to:
- Inspire more historic preservation in Oregon
- Recognize significant leaders in the field
- Promote excellence in the practice of historic preservation
- Build partnerships between Oregon preservation professionals and advocacy communities
Projects are judged by a jury of preservation professionals and community members based on the following criteria:
- Rehabilitation/redevelopment of a structure, public space, or cultural landscape at least 50 years old; OR, compatible addition to a historic building or infill development within a historic district.
- Completed in Oregon within the last five years (2021-Present).
- Self-nominations are welcome.
- Previous applicants (that haven’t been awarded) from 2021-present may re-apply.
- Creative or unique approach to design, adaptive reuse, and problem-solving in the field of historic preservation.
- Exceptional quality of engineering, craftsmanship, materials, standards, and degree of difficulty of the project.
- Positive impact of the project on the community (cultural, economic, or environmental).
Winners of the 2026 DeMuro Award will receive:
- Recognition at the Restoration Celebration Gala in October.
- A one-of-a-kind award valued at over $150; and an opportunity to purchase additional awards.
- Statewide public relations announcement.
