Oregon Modernism Through the Lens of Open Space:
A Film Viewing & Conversation
Restore Oregon is thrilled to host Open Space co-founders Elias Tebache and Mick Aure to feature their first films of Oregon homes and hear from them directly at our annual Modernism lecture. This event will take place on Monday, September 21st, on the University of Oregon’s Portland campus. They will discuss what led them to create their platform, their creative expression and extensive library of work, how they have been inspired by Oregon Modernism, and why it’s important to the national narrative.
With popcorn in hand, we’ll enjoy the artistry and unique stories shared in the five pieces featuring some of Oregon’s finest Northwest Regional Modern homes: including two homes designed by John Yeon, two homes by Pietro Belluschi, and William Fletcher’s personal home.
About OPEN SPACE
In 2019, the Los Angeles-based documentarians Elias Tebache and Mick Aure started the nationally regarded Open Space series to “... to preserv(e) and portray the essence of architecture through the medium of film.” Not only do they document the architecture of these special places, but they also share and preserve the stories experienced within and personal narratives of their owners and caretakers.
Last year, Tebache and Aure connected with longtime R|O sponsor Marisa Swenson of Modern Homes Collective, who encouraged them to visit Oregon and document Northwest Regional Modernism. Many of these homes have been featured on our tours or Architect Spotlight events over the years. We are proud of Oregon’s contribution to Modern architecture and design, and we are thrilled to showcase our favorites on a national stage. Open Space’s five Oregon featurettes have already been viewed over 1 million times.
In September, the remarkably talented Open Space team will return to Oregon to talk about their experiences and perhaps create even more.
You don’t want to miss this exciting event!
