Have you ever wondered what steps you need to take to restore a historic barn? Or how to fund a rehabilitation? Well, look no further! The 2016 Heritage Barn Workshop will educate and provide hands-on experience for attendees. Held at Champoeg State Park featuring the 1862 Donald Manson Barn, the workshop will showcase its restoration after years of deterioration.

Restore Oregon advocates for the rehabilitation and preservation of historic barns because they define Oregon’s agricultural heritage and landscape. We recognize that owners face in rehabilitating and repurposing these historic structures and our workshop fosters creative ways to preserve and perpetuate new life for these rural landmarks.

The workshop will feature speakers, hands-on training, and sessions on barn condition assessment and stabilization. Over the course of the day there will be a demonstration on how to craft a mortise and tenon joint using historic methods by workshop sponsor, New Energy Works Timberframers. Barn owners, historic preservationists, and the general public are invited with no previous knowledge needed to participate. Snacks, beverages, lunch and parking are included in the registration fee.

Additional Information: Participants are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, sign a liability waiver, and inform Restore Oregon staff if they will be arriving late due to travel arrangements. A limited number of scholarships are available upon request to those experiencing financial hardship.
