We are thrilled to welcome our preservation programs intern, Nora Harris!
Nora is pursuing an undergraduate degree in history, religion, and American studies at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. In addition to historic preservation, she is interested in public history, memory studies, material culture, and social history. Previously she worked as an archival and research intern at two county historical society museums and Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, where she developed her historiographical interests. She is passionate about preserving historic spaces and places and believes it is essential for connecting and empowering community members with their local history. Nora is excited to work as an intern at Restore Oregon, where inclusive historic preservation is promoted. She believes in Restore Oregon’s purpose of not only preserving Oregon’s cultural heritage but also as a tool for addressing social justice concerns such as a lack of affordable housing and negative impacts from climate change. Nora believes in encouraging the accessibility of history and complicating the historical narrative through inclusive historical research. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she hopes to pursue a career in archives or historic preservation. When she is not attending classes or doing internship work, she loves discussing Victorian parlors, foolhardiness in Yellowstone National Park, and anything about the Philadelphia Film Society.
