The Big Re-Think for Culture (and Heritage) in Oregon
The Cultural Advocacy Coalition Foundation is spearheading “The Big Re/Think,” a statewide initiative aiming to fortify Oregon’s cultural sector by fostering sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity. There are six workshops scheduled statewide to hear from the public to help shape a comprehensive advocacy and funding package slated for Oregon’s 2027 legislative session. Restore Oregon invites everyone who cares for, supports or works in heritage, history, humanities, and of course, historic preservation to join us. Our voices need to be loud, strong and be counted. Let’s remember that cultural heritage is an essential part of Oregon’s larger “arts and culture” sector.
“The Big Re-Think” work aims to create a clear case statement for the cultural sector, rooted in economic impact, social cohesion, and educational values.
With the sector already contributing over $11 billion in economic activity (3.5% of the state’s GDP) and supporting more than 70,000 jobs in 2023…this movement underscores the essential role of culture and arts in economic, educational, and social well‑being across the state.
Do you want the historic buildings that attract tourists to our main streets, house and showcase artists, museums and culture to be preserved? Do you want heritage to be funded in a way that allows organizations like Restore Oregon to continue to operate and fulfill our mission of education and advocacy for cultural heritage?
