Honoring Historic Preservation Throughout Oregon

Each year, Restore Oregon honors projects demonstrating a commitment to excellence in historic preservation with the annual DeMuro Awards program. Winners of the 2020 DeMuro Award will receive:

    • Recognition at the Restoration Celebration Gala held virtually on October 22, 2020.
    • A one-of-a-kind award valued at over $150; and an opportunity to purchase additional awards.
    • Option to order printed award certificate for each project team member.
    • Statewide public relations announcement.
    • Promotion on restoreoregon.org, all Restore Oregon social media platforms, and in FieldNotes Magazine.

Preparing Your Application:
As you prepare for the application, we encourage you to read the following list in order to get an understanding of the type of work we award.

    • Rehabilitation/redevelopment of a structure, public space or cultural landscape at least 50 years old.
    • Compatible addition to a historic building or infill development within a historic district.
    • Completed in Oregon within the last five years (2015-Present).
    • Self nominations are welcome.
    • Previous applicants (that haven’t been awarded) from 2015-present may re-apply.
    • How well does this project benefit its neighbors and surrounding community?  This could be cultural, economic or environmental.



Projects will be judged by a jury of preservation professionals based on the following criteria:

  • Creative or unique approach to design, adaptive reuse, and problem solving in the field of historic preservation.
  • Exceptional quality of engineering, craftsmanship, materials, standards and degree of difficulty of the project.
  • Positive impact of the project on the community (cultural, economic or environmental).


    • Must provide complete information for the project team including company name, contact person, email and mailing information and the role served (use the provided spreadsheet template).


    • Include photos with your application that illustrate the unique nature of the project that include “Before,” “In Process” and “After” images and historic photo(s) if available.
    • Photo file names should be named in the same structure.  For example: Project Name_Front Entrance_Historic_photocredit.jpg or Project Name_Hallway_Historic_photocredit.png.
    • All photos must be Hi-resolution (300 dpi, 3 MG or greater in size each) and pngs or jpegs(no pdfs or powerpoints)
    • Photos must include captions/cutlines and photo credit/copyright information.  If you need more insight on how to write photo credits; The New School has helpful tips here:  http://guides.library.newschool.edu/pics?p=2538481.
    • Restore Oregon will provide you with space on the application to upload images, photo credit page(s) and any supporting information-including newspaper clippings, related to the nomination.
