A Historic Home Tour
… a benefit event for Restore Oregon made possible by Presenting Sponsor Arciform
Support Restore Oregon and enjoy an exclusive opportunity to experience the Isam White Home with a special presentation by owner/designer Anne De Wolf, of Arciform, a Portland design-build firm specializing in historic preservation. Anne and her team have done an exceptional job in restoring the grandeur of this Colonial Revival home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Not only does the original, welcoming, and cozy spirit of the home remain intact, but it also highlights the sophisticated and whimsical personality of the current owners, Anne and Richard De Wolf.

About the Isam White House
There is an underlying spirit of adventure, confidence, and independence that is shared amongst the owners and stewards that have lived within these walls. From sailing oceans and voyaging by sea, to establishing independent entrepreneurial adventures, the women of the Isam White House, especially, are formidable and fabulous! Kick off Women's History month with us and learn about Rose White, Hilma Carlson and Anne De Wolf, bold women of Portland whose histories have all helped shape our City.
Though the Isam White House was built in 1904, its current era began in 2016 when Anne and her partner bought the home in their curiosity for a new adventure. As half of the duo behind Arciform, Anne, and her team, had the love and knowledge to take the reins and restore its grandeur. The transition of transforming the structure from tired and worn to that of their new home was more of a conversation and an experience as their creative process involves listening to the house’s story and taking inspiration from its past.
The Isam White House became an anchor property for the Nob Hill neighborhood, a new development for wealthy merchants doing business just blocks away in downtown Portland. Rose and her husband Isam White commissioned Whidden & Lewis, one of Portland’s most prominent architectural firms at the time, to build their grand Colonial Revival home as a respite from their worldly travels and an inviting space for Rose to entertain.
Later, in 1943, Hilma Carlson, an independent restaurateur who immigrated to this country from Sweden, bought the home and relocated her restaurant into the first floor. The Cape Cod Tea Room, with “old world charm, … serv(ed) excellent food amidst a friendly and warm atmosphere.”
When they began to renovate, Anne, and their staff of very talented craftspeople treaded lightly, focusing on restoration rather than making architectural changes and by adding modern conveniences tucked behind the scenes and personal touches with furnishings and art. An example is Anne’s sense of whimsy that is sprinkled throughout the home and landscape beyond in the form of animals that blend into the furniture and wallpaper.
Just as Rose was the first to open the doors of the Isam White House to the community, hosting events and celebrations, we are grateful for Anne’s generosity as she hosts our fundraiser to benefit Restore Oregon and our preservation endeavors.
