The Jennings Lodge Camp Meeting Site Exhibit will have its grand opening at the Museum of the Oregon Territory on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 12 – 4 pm and all are welcome!
This new exhibit was developed by the Clackamas County Historical Society. They received the full amount of funding from the Clackamas County's "Jennings Lodge Camp Meeting Site and Retreat Center Education and Preservation Fund."
Sarah Eckman, Assistant Director of Community Services for the County explained that “The Clackamas County Historical Society presented a comprehensive plan to, through the Museum of the Oregon Territory, develop an exhibit about the Jennings Lodge site, a website with an interactive map, as well as 4-6 video recorded interviews, a comic book, education elements for grade-schoolers, and a traveling trunk that can be used in schools. The Clackamas County Historical Society also has a robust outreach and community engagement plan for the project. They will directly involve the Jennings Lodge community through a series of community meetings.”
Please join us in congratulating the Clackamas County Historical Society on being selected to carry out this important project!
The Jennings Lodge Camp, located on the banks of the Willamette in Clackamas County, brought community members together for over a century during its operation. Back in 2018, the site’s owner decided to apply for a permit to redevelop the property. However, before the project could be approved, the United States Army Corps of Engineers determined that the site, an historic district with seventeen contributing structures and three groves of trees, was eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and that removal of the structures and trees would result in adverse effects to the already existing historic district.
Because of this determination, a Section 106 process came next that included numerous stakeholders including Restore Oregon. One of the outcomes of that process was that the property owner agreed to establish an Education and Preservation Fund, administered by Clackamas County.
